This striking image captures the moment of arrest for one of the most infamous figures in English history: Guy Fawkes. The year was 1605, and Guy Fawkes, a Catholic conspirator, had been planning to blow up the House of Lords in London in an attempt to assassinate King James I and overthrow the Protestant government. The plot was foiled when a tip-off led authorities to search Westminster Palace on the night of November 4. In this print by Sir Thomas Knyvet, we see Guy Fawkes being apprehended by a group of determined men, led by Sir Thomas Knyvet himself.
